  • BAO SCIENCE CAMPS
  • Byurakan Science Camp is for 12-15 year old talented teenagers from Armenia and Diaspora. The program of the camp is abundant of educational, cultural and sightseeing activities. The First Byurakan Science camp was organized on October 19-25, 2014 and had 28 participants. The project will be continued in 2015 and further years.

  • PUPILS VISITS TO BAO
  • Pupils visit the largest 2.6m telescope of Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO), Viktor Ambartsumian home-museum; have a presentation about BAO and its activities, and an interactive lecture about the hot topics of astronomy by a professional astronomer.

  • SCHOOL LECTURES BY PROFESSIONAL ASTRONOMERS
  • School lectures program is the visit of professional astronomers to RA, Nagorno Karabagh and Javakhk schools. By lectures astronomers represent the modern state of astronomy, its present developments and challenges, the history of Armenian Astronomy, Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory and Armenian Astronomy, the outstanding scientist Viktor Ambartsumian and other famous astronomers.

  • JUNIOR ASTRONOMER CLUB
  • The program is aimed at getting together teenagers who are interested in Astronomy. The club carries out competitions, games, discussions, regional online lectures and Republican Astronomical Olympiads selection phases.

  • PUBLIC LECTURES
  • Public lectures are being given at various Armenian organizations. A general presentation on “Wonders of the Universe”, “Astronomy Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” and other presentations are prepared, which include information on the history and modern state of astronomy, its present developments, achievements of BAO led by the outstanding scientist Viktor Ambartsumian and other famous astronomers, and a lot of beautiful pictures from the Universe. A number of promotional materials is distributed to public.

  • ASTRONOMICAL PUBLIC EVENTS

  • INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL OLYMPIADS ONLINE DATABASE
  • We are going to create an online database for the Armenian participants of International Astronomical Olympiads. The Database will include all the results and biographies of the Armenian participants of International Astronomical Olympiads.

  • A training workshop for school teachers to teach astronomy with modern educational methods will be organized. The training will be held at Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory. It includes using projectors, small telescopes, astronomical software, videos/movies, practical exercises, outdoor activities, and other tools for productive teaching. A special emphasis is made on using modern Internet websites for teaching to have permanent update of the knowledge and information. Once the project has already been realized at Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory.

  • “ASTGHAGITAK” ONLINE JOURNAL
  • Online popular astronomical journal “Astghagitak” (“Star expert” in Armenian) is the first astronomical informational portal in Armenian and it consists of various articles published in popular journals, webpages, thematic interviews etc., so that the reader can easily handle needed astronomical information. It is aimed at amateur astronomers, pupils, students and everybody else interested in astronomy.

  • BUILDING OF PLANETARIUMS IN ARMENIA
  • Planetariums have great role in the worldwide educational systems. Planetarium has a multi-purpose function: it is a theatre, a classroom, and an immersive experience in which astronomy (and other subjects) are presented as learning experiences. In the past Yerevan also had a planetarium. The aim of the program is to build modern planetariums in Yerevan and other cities of RA.

  • ASTROJOURNALISM
  • The project is aimed at getting science-writing journalists in Armenia together and share information and by this to increase the number of science related articles in Armenian mass media. According to the world statistics, 50-90% of science publications in mass media somehow relate to space topics.
